The ahadith on the virtues of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib are plentiful. Imam Ahmed ibn Hanbal is reported to have said, “No other Sahabi has as many virtues narrated about him as ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib does.” However, how many of these ahadith are actually authentic? In an unprecedented fashion, Mustafa Bahu of Mabarrat al-Al wa al-Ashab has collected all of these ahadith in his work Fada’il Amir al-Mu’minin ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib and categorized them into three levels of authenticity: 1) sahih and hasan, 2) da’if, and 3) munkar, batil, and mawdu’. In total, he collected 302 ahadith. This translation will serve, in sha Allah, as an important resource and reference for scholars and laymen alike. Whenever a hadith is narrated on the virtues of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (whether it appears somewhere online, in a book, or even if it’s heard in a lecture), this work will allow him to conveniently place the hadith in question into one of the three above-mentioned categories and learn more about it. NOTE: This is the translation of Mustafa Bahu’s abridged version of his original, three-volume, work on the virtues of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib which is entitled Mukhtasar Fada’il Amir al-Mu’minin ‘Ali Ibn Abi Talib.
