لو اجتمع الناس على حب علي بن أبي طالب، لما خلق الله النار.
If the people gathered upon the love of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, Allah would not have created the Fire (of Jahannam).
Al Daylami narrates — from Abu al Mufaddal Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah al Shaybani — Nasir ibn al Hassan ibn ‘Ali narrated to us — Muhammad ibn Mansur narrated to us — from ‘Isa ibn Tahir al Yarbu’i — Abu Muawiyah narrated to us — from Layth — from Tawus — Ibn ‘Abbas who said, “The Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said…”
Al Suyuti mentioned this hadith in his work on fabrications.[1]
Al Daylami mentions this hadith in Musnad al Firdaws without a chain of transmission.[2]
Abu al Mufaddal Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah al Shaybani al Kufi is a dajjal and a kadhdhab (liar).
It also contains the narrators ‘Isa ibn Tahir al Yarbu’i and Nasir ibn al Hassan ibn ‘Ali. I could not trace them.
Layth is Ibn Abi Sulaim. He is da’if (weak).
Ibn Taymiyyah said:
Similarly, his statement, “If the people gathered upon the love of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, Allah would not have created the Fire (of Jahannam),” is the most evident of lies according to a consensus of the people of knowledge and iman. If they gathered upon the love of ‘Ali, that would not benefit them until they believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Last Day, and perform good deeds. If they do that, they will enter Jannat, even if they are not fully acquainted with ‘Ali, and loving and hating him did not cross their hearts. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says, “Yes [on the contrary], whoever submits his face in Islam to Allah while being a doer of good will have his reward with his Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.”[3]
And Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says. “And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger – those will be with the ones upon whom Allah has bestowed favor of the prophets, the steadfast affirmers of truth, the martyrs and the righteous. And excellent are those as companions.”[4]

[2] Al Daylami: Musnad al Firdaws, 3/5135.
[3] Surah al Baqarah: 112.
[4] Surah al Nisaʾ: 69.
