Hadith 70

“I prayed sixty salahs with the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam before anyone else prayed with him.”

From ‘Abdullah ibn Nujayy, “I heard ‘Ali on the minbar (pulpit) saying, ‘I did not lie and I was not deceived. I did not stray and I was not lead astray. I did not forget what the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam promised me. And verily I am upon clear evidence from my Lord; He explained it (i.e. the clear evidence) to His Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and, in turn, he salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam explained it to me. And verily I am upon the clear path; I distinctly received it from him.’”

Ibn ‘Adi narrates (and Ibn ‘Asakir in a similar manner) — Ahmed ibn al Hassan al Sukuni al Kufi narrated to us — Ahmed ibn Budayl narrated to us — Mufaddal (i.e. Ibn Salih narrated to us — Jabir ibn Yazid al Ju’fi narrated to us — from ‘Abdullah ibn Nujayy who said, “I heard ‘Ali saying…”[1]

Jabir is suspected of lying.

‘Abdullah ibn Nujayy is regarded as da’if (weak) by most hadith critics.

There is a difference of opinion regarding the status of Ahmed ibn Budayl.

Mufaddal ibn Salih is da’if (weak).

Therefore, the hadith is batil (false).
