‘Ali ibn Abi Talib radiya Llahu ‘anhu entered and the house was filled with whoever was inside it. ‘Aʾishah was next to the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam—this was before the command of hijab. ‘Ali stood looking to see for a place to sit. He indicated towards the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam (i.e. he wanted to sit there). He came and sat between ‘Aʾishah and the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. The Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam turned towards her (after seeing her surprised at the fact ‘Ali sat immediately next to the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and said, “What do you want from Amir al Muʾminin?”
Ibn al Jawzi narrates this hadith — Muhammad ibn Nasir informed us — al Mubarak ibn ‘Abdul Jabbar informed us — ‘Abdul Baqi ibn Ahmed informed us — Muhammad ibn Jafar ibn ‘Alan informed us — Abu al Fath al Azdi narrated to us — Muhammad ibn Ahmed ibn Abi al Muqatil al ‘Arati narrated to us — Ahmed ibn Yahya al Sadafi narrated to us — Ahmed ibn Mufaddal narrated to us — Abu Maryam ‘Abdul Ghaffar ibn al Qasim narrated to us — from ‘Abdullah ibn Sharik al ‘Amiri who said — Jundub ibn ‘Abdullah al Azdi informed me…[1]
Ibn al Jawzi said, “This hadith is mawdu’ (fabricated). The person suspected for forging it is ‘Abdul Ghaffar.”
Abu Maryam is ‘Abdul Ghaffar ibn al Qasim al Ansari. He is not a thiqah (reliable). Abu Dawood and Ibn al Madini both deemed him a liar.
Everyone between him and al Azdi could not be traced.
There is a difference of opinion regarding the status of ‘Abdullah ibn Sharik.
Both al Suyuti and Ibn ‘Iraq followed Ibn al Jawzi in ruling the hadith a fabrication.[2]
