Hadith 163

إن أول أربعة يدخلون الجنة: أنا، وأنت، والحسن، والحسين، وذرارينا خلف ظهورنا، وأزواجنا خلف ذرارينا، وشيعتنا عن أيماننا، وعن شمائلنا.

Verily the first four people to enter Jannat are me, you (‘Ali), al Hassan, and al Hussain. Our descendants will be behind us and our wives will be behind our descendants. Our shia (followers) will be to our right and left.

This hadith is narrated from Abu Rafi’ and ‘Ali radiya Llahu ‘anhuma.

The Hadith of Abu Rafi’

Al Tabarani narrates this version of the hadith — Ahmed ibn al ‘Abbas al Murri al Qantari narrated to us — Harb ibn al Hassan al Tahhan narrated to us — Yahya ibn Ya’la narrated to us — from Muhammad ibn ‘Ubaidullah ibn Abi Rafi’ — from his father — from his grandfather that the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said to ‘Ali…[1]

This chain of transmission is batil (false). It contains the following defects:

  • Muhammad ibn ‘Ubaidullah ibn Abi Rafi’ is matruk (suspected of forgery), as mentioned previously.
  • Yahya ibn Ya’la al Aslami is da’if (weak).
  • Harb ibn al Hassan al Tahhan is not worth much (laysa bidhak).

Al Dhahabi says, “The hadith is batil (false) with this chain of transmission.”[2]

The Hadith of ‘Ali

Al Qati’i narrates this version of the hadith with a chain of transmission that is batil (false).[3] It contains the following defects:

  • Muhammad ibn Yunus al Kudaymi is suspected of lying.
  • ‘Umar ibn Musa is Ibn al Wajih al Wajihi al Ansari al Shami, the kadhdhab (liar) and wadda’ (fabricator). He is from this generation (tabaqah). Then I found al Albani authoritatively saying the same thing; however, his name appears as ‘Amr ibn Musa al Wajihi by al Albani. The correct name is as I have mentioned above.
  • Ismail ibn ‘Amr is Ibn Najih al Bajali al Kufi. He is munkar al hadith (unacceptable in hadith).[4]

Al Albani gave preference to his name being Ismail ibn ‘Amr al Asbahani. He is da’if (weak).[5] I have explained in the original work that the correct name is as I have mentioned above.

Al Albani ruled the hadith a fabrication in both of its chains of transmission.[6] It is as the said.
