Hadith 145

أمرنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: أن نعرض أولادنا على حب علي بن أبي طالب.

The Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam ordered us to present[1] our children to the love of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib.

Ibn Hibban says — Al Hassan ibn ‘Ali narrated — from Ahmed ibn ‘Abdah al Dabbi — from Ibn ‘Uyaynah — from Abu al Zubair — from Jabir.[2]

Ibn al Jawzi narrates the hadith in a similar manner.[3]

Ibn Hibban says, “This too is batil (false)… The person who attentively listens to this hadith will have no doubt that it its mawdu’ (fabricated).”

I have mentioned previously that al Hassan ibn ‘Ali al ‘Adawi is a kadhdhab (liar) and a wadda’ (fabricator).

Al Suyuti, Ibn ‘Iraq, and al Shawkani all followed Ibn al Jawzi in ruling the hadith a fabrication. [4]

[1] In Mahmud Ibrahim Zayid’s print edition, the word nafrid (i.e. (we) enjoin upon) appears. This is a mistake. In the print edition of Hamdi al Silafi and all other hadith references, it appears as na’rid (i.e. (we) present). This is correct.

[2] Ibn Hibban: Kitab al Majruhin, 1/241.

[3] Ibn al Jawzi: Kitab al Mawdu’at, 1/370.

[4] Al Suyuti: al Laʾali al Masnu’ah, 1/325; Ibn ‘Iraq: Tanzih al Shari’ah, 1/355; al Shawkani: al Fawaʾid al Majmu’ah, hadith no. 320.
