When I was taken into the Heavens, Jibril ‘alayh al Salam took my hand and made me sit on a carpet from the carpets of Jannat. Thereafter, he handed me a quince. I was flipping it around when all of a sudden it split open and a beautiful damsel came out. I had not seen something more beautiful. She said, “As-salamu ‘alayk, O Muhammad!” I said, “Who are you?” She said, “I am al Radiyah al Mardiyyah (well pleased and pleasing); al Jabbar created me from three distinct asnaf (materials): my bottom portion is from musk, my middle portion is from camphor, and my upper portion from amber. He created my mould with the water of animals. Al Jabbar said to me, ‘Be!’ And I came to be! He created me for your brother and your cousin, ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib radiya Llahu ‘anhu.”
This hadith is narrated by Ibn al Maghazili — Abu Ishaq ibn Ghassan al Daqqaq al Basri informed us (in what he wrote to me) — Abu ‘Ali al Hussain ibn Ahmed ibn Muhammad narrated to us — Abu al Qasim ‘Abdullah ibn Ahmed ibn ‘Amir al Taʾi narrated to us — my father narrated to us — Abu al Hassan ‘Ali ibn Musa al Rida narrated to me — my father, Musa ibn Jafar narrated to me — my father, Jafar ibn Muhammad narrated to me — my father, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali narrated to me — my father, ‘Ali ibn al Hussain narrated to me — my father, al Hussain ibn ‘Ali narrated to me — my father, ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib radiya Llahu ‘anhu narrated to me and said, “The Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said…”[1]
