Hadith 168: ‘Ali is the protector/vessel of my knowledge.

Hadith 167: Concerning the verse, ‘Those who spend their wealth [in Allah’s way] by night and by day, secretly and publicly…’[1] he said, “It was revealed regarding ‘Ali. He had four dirhams; he spent one dirham at night, one dirham in the day, one secretly, and one publicly.”

Hadith 168

علي عيبة علمي.

‘Ali is the protector/vessel of my knowledge.

 


Ibn ‘Adi and others narrate this hadith  — from Dirar ibn Surad — Yahya ibn ‘Isa al Ramli narrated to us — from al A’mash — from ‘Abayah — from Ibn ‘Abbas — from the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam[1]

Dirar ibn Surad is matruk and is suspected of lying.

Yahya ibn ‘Isa al Ramli is da’if (weak).

Ibn al Jawzi said, “This hadith is not authentic.”[2]

Al Dhahabi said, “This hadith contains (the narrator) Dirar ibn Surad. He is matruk (suspected of forgery).”[3]

Al Albani ruled the hadith a fabrication.[4]
