Hadith 51

عادى الله من عادى عليا.

Allah shows enmity towards anyone who shows enmity to ‘Ali.

Abu Nuaim narrates — Muhammad narrated to us — from Zaid ibn Muhammad ibn Jafar al Kufi — Muhammad ibn Jafar al Qattat narrated to us — al Hakam ibn Sulaiman narrated to us — from Muhammad ibn Kathir — from Ismail al Bazzaz — from Abu Idris al Murhibi — from Rafi’, the mawla (client) of ‘Aʾishah who said, “I was a young boy who used to serve her (i.e. ‘Aʾishah) when the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam was by her. Verily the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said…”[1]

The chain of transmission is saqit (wholly unreliable). It contains the following defects:

  • Muhammad ibn Jafar al Qattat is da’if (weak).[2]
  • Abu Hatim says he does not know who al Hakam ibn Sulaiman al Kindi[3]
  • I could not trace Ismail al Bazzaz.
  • Muhammad ibn Kathir still needs to be investigated. There are a number of people with this name in his generation.
