Hadith 4

ثلاث من كن فيه فليس مني، ولا أنا منه: بغض علي بن أبي طالب، ونصب لأهل بيتي. ومن قال: الإيمان كلام.

Whoever has three qualities they are not from me: hatred of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib; dislike for my Ahlul Bayt; and the person who says iman is (merely) speech (i.e. and not in doing deeds).

Ibn ‘Asakir and al Silafi narrate — from ‘Abdullah ibn Sulaiman — ‘Abbad ibn Ya’qub al Rawajini Abu Sa’id narrated to us — Abu Yazid al ‘Ukli narrated to us — from Hisham ibn Sa’d — from Abu ‘Abdullah al Makki — from Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah who said: ‘The Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said…’”[1]

This hadith is mawdu’ (fabricated).

I could not trace Abu Yazid al ‘Ukli, perhaps, he is the problem in the hadith.

There is a difference of opinion regarding the status of Hisham ibn Sa’d.

There is a difference of opinion regarding the status of ‘Abbad ibn Ya’qub. The preponderant opinion is that he is a saduq (sincere); unless he narrates manakir (unacceptable reports), which, in that case, will not be accepted. Ibn Hibban felt that he deserves to be abandoned (yastihiqq al tark).[2] Even though Ibn Hibban’s statements are overstated (as mentioned by Ibn Hajar in al Taqrib), what can be derived therefrom is the fact that he narrates unacceptable and baseless ahadith, which need to be made aware of.

Ibn ‘Iraq mentions the hadith in his work on mawdu’at (fabrications).[3]
