كان جبريل يملي على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، ورسول الله يملي على علي.
Jibril used to dictate (revelation) to the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam used to dictate to ‘Ali.
Ibn al Maghazili narrates this hadith — Abu Talib Muhammad ibn Ahmed ibn ‘Uthman ibn al Faraj al Dabthaʾi al Sayrafi informed us — Abu al Hussain Muhammad ibn al Muzaffar ibn Musa ibn ‘Isa al Hafiz al Baghdadi narrated to us — ‘Ali ibn al Hassan ibn Sulaiman narrated to us — Ibrahim ibn Sa’id al Jawhari narrated to us — Hussain ibn Muhammad ibn Sulaiman ibn Qarm narrated to us — from ‘Abdul Jabbar ibn al ‘Abbas — from ‘Ammar al Duhani — from Ibn Abi ‘Aqrab — from Umm Salamah…[1]
Al Tabarani also narrates this version of the hadith with another chain of transmission from Sulaiman ibn Qarm. Except that he said, “‘Aqrab bint Af’a (instead of Ibn Abi ‘Aqrab).”[2]
This hadith is batil (false).
Ibn al Maghazili is da’if (weak).
Sulaiman ibn Qarm is da’if (weak).
‘Abdul Jabbar ibn al ‘Abbas is a saduq (sincere). Abu Nuaim deemed him a kadhdhab (liar).
‘Ammar al Duhani is a saduq (sincere).
In the first chain of transmission, the name Ibn Abi ‘Aqrab appears. In al Tabarani’s version, the name ‘Aqrab bint Af’a appears. This is a case of idtirab (inconsistency) in the chain of transmission.
Ibn Hibban narrates from Abu ‘Awanah, “I heard al Kalbi saying, ‘Jibril used to dictate wahi (revelation) to the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. When the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam would enter the toilet (to relieve himself), Jibril used to dictate to ‘Ali.’”[3]
This hadith is mawdu’ (fabricated). May Allah curse the person responsible for fabricating it.
Al Kalbi is Muhammad ibn al Saʾib, the kadhdhab (liar).
