Hadith 207

أهدي إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم زبد وعسل، فجاء علي بن أبي طالب فجلس، فقدمه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إليه، فقال: كل يا سيدي.

The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam was gifted some butter and honey. ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib came and sat down. The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam presented it to him and said, “O my Sayed (master), eat.”

Ibn al Najjar narrates this hadith — ‘Abdul Wahhab ibn ‘Ali al Amin informed us — from Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul Baqi al Shahid — al Hassan ibn ‘Ali al Jawhari informed us idhnan (he authorized us to narrate this hadith) — from Abu Bakr Ahmed ibn Ibrahim ibn al Hussain ibn Shadhan — Abu al Hassan ‘Ali ibn ‘Amr ibn Sahl al Hariri narrated to me — Abu al ‘Abbas ‘Abdul Malik ibn Jafar ibn al Hussain narrated to me — Abu ‘Ali al Hassan al ‘Abdi narrated to us in what was previously known as Surra Man Raʾa (Samarra) — Yazid ibn Harun al Wasiti narrated to us — from Humaid al Tawil — from Anas ibn Malik who said…[1]

This hadith is mawdu’ (fabricated) and very unacceptable. The person responsible for forging this hadith did not shy away from attributing the words, “My master, eat,” to the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. And he said these words to ‘Ali!

Ibn al Najjar said this hadith is munkar (unacceptable).

Al Dhahabi said, “This hadith is batil (false). He (Abu al ‘Abbas ‘Abdul Malik ibn Jafar ibn al Hussain) is the problem.”[2]

Al Suyuti and Ibn ‘Iraq mention this hadith in their respective works on fabrications.[3]
