By Him in Whose hand my soul is! Had it not been that groups from my Ummah say regarding you what the Christians say regarding ‘Isa ibn Maryam, I would say something about you today such that you would not pass by a group of Muslims except that they would collect the dirt from beneath your feet (out of love for you) seeking barakah (blessings) thereby.
This hadith is narrated by al Tabarani — from Muhammad ibn ‘Ubaidullah ibn Abi Rafi’ — from his father — from his grandfather (who said) that the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said to ‘Ali…
Al Shajari’s (similar) narration has already been mentioned. The wording is as follows:
O ‘Ali, verily there is in you the like of ‘Isa ‘alayh al Salam; The Nasara (Christians) loved him to such an extent that they raised him to a status that he is not deserving of. And the Yahud (Jews) hated him to such an extent that they slandered his mother. Had it not been that groups from my Ummah say regarding you what the Christians say regarding the Masih, ‘Isa ibn Maryam, I would say something about you such that you would not pass by a group of Muslims from my Ummah except that they would collect your dirt (from beneath your feet) and the leftover water you used for purification purposes (seeking barakah (blessings) therefrom); however, you are my brother, my wazir (advisor), my close friend, my inheritor, and the Ka’bah of my knowledge.
This hadith is also mawdu’ (fabricated).
Musa ibn Ibrahim al Marwazi al A’war’s name is either Abu ‘Imran al Marwazi, in which case Yahya ibn Ma’in deemed a kadhdhab (liar) and al Daraqutni and others said that he is matruk (suspected of forgery) or he is majhul (unknown).
Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Zakariyya al Marwazi could not be traced.
Al Ashnani, as will be mentioned shortly, is da’if (weak).
Al Albani ruled the hadith a fabrication.
