Hadith 55

أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بعث عليا مبعثا، فلما قدم قال له رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: الله ورسوله وجبريل عليه السلام عنك راضون.

Verily the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam sent ‘Ali on a particular errand. When he returned, the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said to him, “Allah, His Messenger, and Jibril ‘alayh al Salam are pleased with you.”

Al Tabarani narrates — Ahmed ibn al ‘Abbas al Murri al Qantari narrated to us — Harb ibn al Hassan al Tahhan narrated to us — Yahya ibn Ya’la narrated to us — from Muhammad ibn ‘Ubaidullah ibn Abi Rafi’ — from his father — from his grandfather…[1]

The chain of transmission is batil (false). It contains the following defects:

  • Muhammad ibn ‘Ubaidullah ibn Abi Rafi’ is matruk (suspected of forgery), as mentioned previously.
  • Al Azdi says that the hadith of Harb ibn al Hassan al Tahhan are not (worth) much (laysa hadithuhu bidhak).[2] Abu Hatim says he is a sheikh (venerable).[3] Ibn Hibban mentions him in Kitab al Thiqat.[4]
  • Yahya ibn Ya’la al Aslami is da’if (weak), as mentioned previously.
