Hadith 186

Verily the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam dressed ‘Ali with a turban that was known as al Sahab. ‘Ali entered one day with it on and the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “This is ‘Ali. He has entered wearing al Sahab.”

Jafar said, “My father said: ‘They distorted it and said: ‘‘Ali entered on clouds (al Sahab).’”

Ibn ‘Adi narrates this hadith — Zakariyya ibn Yahya al Busti narrated to us — Muhammad ibn al Wazir al Wasiti narrated to us — Mas’adah ibn al Yasa’ narrated to us — from Jafar ibn Muhammad — from his father…[1]

Abu al Sheikh narrates this hadith from Muhammad ibn al Wazir.[2]

Regarding the narrator Mas’adah ibn al Yasa’, al Dhahabi said, “He is halik (destroyed). Abu Dawood deemed him a kadhdhab (liar).”[3]

(In another place), al Dhahabi said, “It contains Mas’adah ibn al Yasa’. He is saqit (wholly unreliable).”[4]

Al Albani ruled the hadith to be a fabrication.[5]
