Hadith 205
قيل: يا رسول الله: عمن يكتب العلم بعدك؟ قال: عن علي، وسلمان.
It was said, “‘O Messenger of Allah, from who should knowledge be written after you?” He said, “From ‘Ali and Salman.”
Ibn ‘Adi and others narrate this hadith — from Ahmed ibn Abi Rawh — Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us — Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us — from Thabit — from Anas…[1]
Regarding Ahmed ibn Abi Rawh al Baghdadi, Ibn ‘Adi said, “He was in Jurjan; his ahadith are not correct.”
Al Khatib said, “He (i.e. Ahmed ibn Rawh al Baghdadi) narrates unacceptable ahadith from Yazid ibn Harun and Muhammad ibn Mus’ab al Qurqusani.”[2]
After mentioning this hadith, al Dhahabi said, “This hadith is fabricated with this chain of transmission.”[3]
Both al Suyuti and Ibn ‘Iraq mention this hadith in their respective works on fabrications.[4]
[1] Ibn ‘Adi: al Kamil, 1/195.
[2] Al Khatib: Tarikh Baghdad, 4/158.
[3] Al Dhahabi: Mizan al I’tidal, 1/98.
[4] Al Suyuti: al Ziyadat ‘ala al Mawdu’at, 1/280; Ibn ‘Iraq: Tanzih al Shari’ah, 1/405.
