ذكر علي عبادة.
The remembrance of ‘Ali is ‘ibadah (worship).
Ibn al Maghazili narrates this hadith — Abu al Hassan Ahmand ibn al Muzaffar ibn Ahmed al ‘Attar al Faqih al Shafi’i informed us (I read to him and he approved of it) — Abu Muhammad ‘Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Uthman al Muzani (known as Ibn al Saqqaʾ al Hafiz al Wasiti informed me) — Muhammad ibn ‘Ali ibn Ma’mar al Kufi narrated to me — Hamdan ibn al Mu’afa narrated to us; Waki’ narrated to us — from Hisham ibn ‘Urwah — from his father — from ‘Aʾishah who said, “The Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said…”[1]
This hadith is mawdu’ (fabricated) and munkar (unacceptable).
I could not trace Muhammad ibn ‘Ali ibn Ma’mar al Kufi and Hamdan ibn al Mu’afa. Perhaps one of them is the problem in the hadith.
Ibn ‘Asakir also narrates this version of the hadith.[2] It contains the narrator al Hassan ibn Sabir. Ibn Hibban says, “He narrates very unacceptable reports from reliable narrators; he is among those people who bring forth feeble texts from reliable narrators with contiguous chains of transmission.”[3]
Al Albani ruled this hadith to be a fabrication.[4]
[1] Ibn al Maghazili: Manaqib ‘Ali, hadith no. 243.
[2] Ibn ‘Asakir: Tarikh Dimashq, 42/356.
[3] Ibn Hibban: Kitab al Majruhin, 1/239.
