نادى مناد يوم بدر يقال له رضوان: لا سيف إلا ذو الفقار، ولا فتى إلا علي.
A caller called out on the Day of Badr—it has been said that his name is Ridwan, “There is no sword except for Dhu al Fiqar and there is not a young man except ‘Ali.”
This hadith is narrated by Abu Jafar and Abu Rafi’ radiya Llahu ‘anhuma
Ibn Abi al Dunya narrates — my father narrated to me — ‘Ammar Abu al Yaqzan narrated to us — from Sa’d ibn Tarif — from Abu Jafar…[1]
Sa’d ibn Tarif al Hanzali is matruk and has been accused of fabricating hadith.
Abu Jafar Muhammad ibn ‘Ali ibn al Hussain ibn ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib al Qurashi is a Tabi’i (Successor of the Companions). Therefore, the hadith is mursal[2] (broken transmission).
I have explained in the original work that some people have narrated this hadith and misspelt the name of Sa’d ibn Tarif and consequently authenticated the hadith. His name is actually Sa’d ibn Tarif al Hanzali. He is matruk (suspected of forgery), as mentioned previously.
Ibn ‘Adi and others narrate this hadith.[3] It contains the narrator ‘Isa ibn Mihran al Musta’tif. As mentioned previously, he is a kadhdhab (liar) and a dajjal.
It also contains the narrator Muhammad ibn ‘Ubaidullah ibn Abi Rafi’. He is matruk (suspected of forgery).
Ibn al Jawzi says, “This hadith is not authentic. The accused person (in the chain of transmission) is ‘Isa ibn Mihran.”[4]
Ibn al Maghazili (also) narrates this hadith.[5] It contains the narrator ‘Amr ibn Thabit Abu al Miqdam ibn Hurmuz al Bakri. He is matruk (suspected of forgery).
It also contains the narrator Muhammad ibn ‘Ubaidullah ibn Abi Rafi’. He (too) is matruk (suspected of forgery).
A portion of this hadith has already been mentioned in the lengthy hadith of al munashadah, which is transmitted with a chain that is saqit (wholly unreliable). As mentioned previously, the hadith is mawdu’ (fabricated).
In short, the hadith is mawdu’ (fabricated) and batil (false), as explained previously.
