Hadith 215

من شتم الصديق فإنه زنديق، ومن شتم عمر فمأواه سقر، ومن شتم عثمان خصمه الرحمن، ومن شتم عليا فخصمه النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Whoever curses al Siddiq (i.e. Abu Bakr), he is a zindiq. Whoever curses ‘Umar, his abode is the Fire. Whoever curses ‘Uthman, his adversary is al Rahman. Whoever curses ‘Ali, his adversary is the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

Al Daqqaq writes under the section, “He whose name is Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul Wahid” — Sulaiman ibn Abi al Qasim informed me — Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Siyashi ibn ‘Abdullah narrated to me — Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul Wahid ibn Muhammad al Hafiz narrated to me — Muhammad ibn Ya’qub al Tabari narrated to me — ‘Ali ibn Shayban narrated to us — al Muzani narrated to us — from al Shafi’i — from Malik — from Nafi’ — from Ibn ‘Umar marfu’an (he attributed the hadith to the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).[1]

This hadith is mawdu’ (fabricated).

Ibn ‘Iraq mentions this hadith in his work on fabrications and writes, “The defect in the hadith was not explained; it contains the narrator ‘Ali ibn Shayban, and from him Muhammad ibn Ya’qub al Tabari. I do not know who both of them are. And Allah knows best.”[2]

It is as he stated. Additionally, I do not know who Muhammad ibn Siyashi ibn ‘Abdullah.
