This pure chain of praise continues with the praise of ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud as is mentioned in al Isti’ab of Ibn ‘Abdul Barr:
ان اقضى اهل المدينة علي بن ابي طالب
It is narrated from ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, “Verily the most knowledgeable with regards to law in Madinah is ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib.”[1]
He also said:
نعم ترجمان القرآن ابن عباس، ولو ادرك اسناننا ما عاشره منا احد
What a great explainer of the Qur’an is ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas radiya Llahu ‘anhuma. If he reached our age, none of us would have been able to match him.[2]
