The one who does not observe Taqiyyah has no faith

لا إيمان لمن لا تقية له

The one who does not observe Taqiyyah has no faith.[1]

Ibn Abi Shaybah reports it in al Musannaf with the following isnad:

حدثنا وكيع عن إسرائيل عن عبد الأعلى عن محمد بن الحنفية بن علي بن أبي طالب

Waki’ narrated to us from―Isra’il from―’Abdul A’la from―Muhammad ibn al Hanafiyyah ibn ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib.

This narration is not sahih since one of the narrators has weakness, viz. ‘Abdul A’la ibn ‘Amir al Tha’labi.

‘Abdul A’la ibn ‘Amir al Tha’labi.

  • Al Bukhari stated, “Yahya ibn Sa’id says: I asked al Thawri about the ahadith of ‘Abdul A’la from Ibn al Hanafiyyah. He declared them da’if.”[2]
  • Ahmed ibn Hambal classified ‘Abdul A’la da’if.[3]
  • He would read from a book attributed to Muhammad ibn al Hanafiyyah. He did not hear directly from him. This is understood from the speech of Ahmed ibn Hambal and ‘Abdul Rahman ibn Mahdi.
