That is the best human (reported from Jabir)

ذاك خير البشر

That is the best human.

This is one of the reports of ‘Attiyah al ‘Aufi, the mudallis (deceitful) rafidi. I have mentioned time and again that part of his deception was that he would report from Abu Sa’id al Kalbi the story teller, in such a manner that will dupe people into believing that he is reporting from Sayyidina Abu Sa’id al Khudri radiya Llahu ‘anhu. Nonetheless, al Dhahabi says that had this narration been sahih, it would mean that he is the best human of his time. No Muslim will make this statement unconditionally.[1]

Sayyidina Jabir’s radiya Llahu ‘anhu statement appears in Musannaf ibn Abi Shaybah[2] and Fada’il al Sahabah[3] from ‘Attiyah with the words:

ذاك من خير البشر

That is one of the best humans.

Despite the weakness of the narration, there is no doubt that Sayyidina ‘Ali radiya Llahu ‘anhu is one of the best humans which none besides a munafiq will reject. But him being the best of them all unconditionally, is not accepted. The lowest ranking nabi is far superior to Sayyidina Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, ‘Uthman, and ‘Ali radiya Llahu ‘anhum.
