Narrations of ‘Abdullah ibn Hassan

Narration of al Tirmidhi

‘Abdullah ibn Hassan narrated — from his mother, Fatimah bint Hussain — from her grandmother, Sayyidah Fatimah radiya Llahu ‘anhu, who said, “When Allah’s Messenger entered the Masjid he said salah and salam upon Muhammad and then said,

O my Rabb, pardon my sins and open the gates of Your mercy for me.

And when he exited he said salah and salam upon Muhammad, and then said,

O my Rabb, pardon my sins and open the gates of Your blessings for me.

‘Ali ibn Hujr related that Ismail ibn Ibrahim  said, “I met ‘Abdullah ibn Hassan in Makkah and asked him about this hadith, so he narrated it to me, and said, “When Allah’s Messenger entered, he said:

O my Rabb, open the gates of Your mercy for me.

And when he exited he said:

O my Rabb, open the gates of Your blessings for me.[1]

Narration of al Nasa’i

‘Abdullah ibn Hassan narrates — from Ikrimah —from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr radiya Llahu ‘anhu that the Messenger salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “Whoever is killed defending his wealth, he is a martyr.”[2]

Al Tirmidhi narrates the same Hadith but from the chain ‘Abdullah ibn Hassan — Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Talhah — from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr radiya Llahu ‘anhu.[3]

These few examples enlighten us as to the lofty position ‘Abdullah ibn Hassan held in transmitting the blessed ahadith of the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, as has been collected in the Sunan compilations; may Allah be pleased with him.

[1] Sunan al Tirmidhi, # 314, Book on Salah, Chapter: What is to be recited when entering the Masjid; Sunan Ibn Majah, # 771, Book on the Masjid and congregation, Chapter: What is to be recited when entering the Masjid. Fatimah bint Hussain did not meet her grandmother, Fatimah bint Rasulillah radiya Llahu ‘anha, thus the Hadith is Mursal but its chain is Sahih. Refer to Tahdib al Kamal, 35/255.

[2] Sunan al Nasa’i, Book on the prohibition of bloodshed, Chapter: The one who is killed defending his wealth, # 4087, al Albani declared it Sahih.

[3] Sunan al Tirmidhi, # 1419, Book on blood money, Chapter: What has been related about blood money, # 1419.
