Abu Bakr Ahmed ibn Jafar al Bazzaz informed us in Baghdad―’Abdullah ibn Ahmed ibn Hambal narrated to us―my father narrated to me―Muhammad ibn Jafar narrated to us―’Awf narrated to us from―Maymun Abi ‘Abdullah from―Zaid ibn Arqam who reports: “Some of the companions of Rasulullah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam had doors leading to the Masjid. So Rasulullah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said one day, ‘Close all these doors except ‘Ali’s door.’
People began speaking about this so Rasulullah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam stood up, praised and glorified Allah and then said, ‘After praising Allah, I have been commanded to close all these doors with the exception of ‘Ali’s door.”
The hadith is reported by al Nasa’i in al Khasa’is[1], al Tirmidhi[2], and al Bayhaqi[3].
Al Hakim recorded it in al Mustadrak[4] and commented, “This hadith has a sahih isnad but al Bukhari and Muslim have not recorded it.”
However, al Dhahabi contests him saying, “‘Awf ibn Maymun Abi ‘Abdullah narrated it.”
Probably it is ‘Awf from Maymun and not ibn Maymun. By saying this, he indicates to the weakness of the hadith due to Maymun’s weakness. He has mentioned him in Mizan al I’tidal[5] and has listed this hadith among his munkar narrations. In a like manner, al Haythami has declared him da’if.[6]
Next⇒ Indeed, Abu Bakr intended to propose to Nabi salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam for Fatimah
