أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أخذ بيد حسن وحسين فقال: من أحبني وأحب هذين وأباهما وأمهما، كان معي في درجتي يوم القيامة.
The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam took Hassan and Hussain by the hand and said, “Whoever loves me and loves these two, and their father and mother, shall be with me on my level on the Day of Resurrection.”
Imam al Tirmidhi and others narrate — from Nasr ibn ‘Ali al Jahdami — ‘Ali ibn Jafar ibn Muhammad narrated to us — my brother, Musa ibn Jafar ibn Muhammad informed me — from his father, Jafar ibn Muhammad — from his father, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali — from his father, ‘Ali ibn al Hussain — from his father — from his grandfather, ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib.”[1]
Imam al Tirmidhi said that this hadith is hassan gharib (fair rare).
‘Ali ibn Jafar’s ‘adalah (integrity) is unknown. No one has deemed him a thiqah (reliable).
Al Dhahabi states: “The chain of transmission is da’if (weak) and the matn (text) is munkar (unacceptable).”[2]
In another place, he states:
This hadith is munkar jiddan (very unacceptable)… All of the narrators are reliable except for ‘Ali ibn Jafar; perhaps he is the one who did not accurately transmit the words of the hadith. Despite the Prophet’s salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam love for Hassan and Hussain and continuous pronouncements of their virtues, this would not make him say that every single person who loves them will be on the same level as him in Jannat (Paradise). It could be that he only said: ‘…he will be with me in Jannat (Paradise).’ The following statement of the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam is mutawatir[3] (massively transmitted): ‘A man will be with whom he loves (on the Day of Judgement).’[4]
Regarding the narrator Nasr ibn ‘Ali, he is one of the leading hadith scholars.
Al Albani (also) ruled the hadith to be munkar (unacceptable).[5]
