Conclusion of Chapter 1

At the end of this chapter, wherein I have mentioned the status of the Companions radiya Llahu ‘anhum in the Qur’an, I would like to mention their virtue and status concisely, as stated in the noble Qur’an:

Through the Qur’anic verses that I have mentioned, I conclude by explaining the description of the Companions radiya Llahu ‘anhum with what Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala praised them for, such as describing them with noble qualities, praising them with beautiful deeds, honouring them with gifts and the noble attributes and sublime gifts they were single out with, and bestowing upon them noble and lofty descriptions, high and honourable names, and lofty and magnificent epithets.

  • Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala described them as having iman, honoured them with His pleasure, and bestowed tranquillity upon them. He rewarded them with great favour and recorded their description and perfection in the ancient scriptures. He promised them forgiveness and a great reward, mentioned His support for them, His assistance for them, and His increasing iman in their hearts, their admission to Jannat, and eternity therein. He informed us of His expiation of their sins, His obligating them to the word of piety and that they are most deserving of it, and that He answered their prayers and supported His Beloved Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam through them and united their hearts.
  • That which Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala mentioned regarding the angels descending to support them, bring them glad tidings, reassure and strengthen their hearts, and strengthen them; all of this in the darkest and most difficult circumstances. Likewise, sending down slumber upon them as a security for them, defending them, and the good that He provided for them in this world and the Hereafter.
  • How Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala endeared iman to them. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala beautified it in their hearts, and made disbelief, immorality, and disobedience hateful to them.
  • Similarly, Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala kept their martyrs alive by Him. He described their response to Him and His Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam after suffering severe wounds and crippling injuries, their absolute submission to Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, and their listening and obedience to Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala and His Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.
  • Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala promised them succession on earth, the establishment of their din for them, the replacement of their fear with security, goodness, and the honour bestowed upon them with His grace and favour.
  • Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala made them among the selected and best of creation. He selected them from among mankind to be Companions of His Messenger salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. They are the best of creation after the prophets ‘alayhim al Salam. They are Allah’s subhanahu wa ta ‘ala witnesses over His creation and they are the victorious and the supported. He sustained them with pure sustenance and saved them from the Fire. He also described how they sold their souls and wealth to Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, and as a result, He gave them the best reward. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala took care of them, fulfilled His promise to them, and forgave them.
  • Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala mentioned the trembling of their hearts when they hear the mention of Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, their reliance on Him, their performing acts of worship in the best and most perfect manner, and what He has prepared for them in the Hereafter such as lofty ranks, high positions, generous provision, and forgiveness of sins. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala lightened matters for them compared to what was imposed on previous nations. Similarly, what He described of them, such as standing in prayer at night, their sides staying away from their beds, calling upon Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala out of fear and hope, spending from what Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala has provided them, refraining from arrogance, Allah’s subhanahu wa ta ‘ala love for them and their love for Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, their being humble towards the believers and severe towards the disbelievers, their humbleness before Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, their sincerity in their deeds for Him, their loyalty to Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, His Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and the believers, their establishment of the salient features of Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, and their seeking forgiveness in the early hours of the morning.
  • Allah’s subhanahu wa ta ‘ala pleasure with them and their pleasure with Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, their eternity in Jannat and eternal bliss, Allah’s subhanahu wa ta ‘ala acceptance of all of their repentance, and His compassion and mercy towards them.
  • Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala mentioned that they preferred others over themselves and put the needs of the needy before their own needs, that they assisted Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala and His Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, that Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala gave them glad tidings of mercy, pleasure, Jannat and eternity therein, that their deeds would not be wasted, that their reward would be Allah’s subhanahu wa ta ‘ala responsibility. Likewise, announcing their purity, His love for them, that they left their wealth, families, and homes and emigrated to Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala and His Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Therefore, it was not permissible for the Prophet of Allah to marry anyone but a female Emigrant—even if they were his relatives—out of respect for them.
  • Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala described them as His victorious party, the foremost, the close, the successful, the truthful, the rightly guided, the pious, the doers of good, the scholars, the successful ones, the true believers, the sincere worshippers, and the guided ones, the intelligent, and the selected ones.
  • It is not permissible for the Prophet of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam to expel them or make them despondent; rather, he should greet them and brings them close.
  • That is why Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala shows affection to them and honours them. He will reward them for their best deeds with whatever their souls desire in Jannat. He is their guardian; thus, He has forgiven their worst deeds, and obviously the lowest ones. He has removed malice, envy, and grudges from their hearts, and made them loving brothers. Therefore, the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam gave them glad tidings of what Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala has prepared for them and how He will honour them—they will be in Jannat with the prophets and the truthful, because they are either martyrs or righteous, and among them are the truthful. Furthermore, Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala described their eagerness to strive and sacrifice their lives in support of this din, even if they were in need or excused.
  • This is a portion of their virtue, their attributes, their dignity, their lofty status, their noble position, and their exalted honour. How can it not be, whereas Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala made the best of His messengers, the most honoured of His chosen ones, the best of His creation, and the leader of His prophets salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam one of them, and made them His Companions, ministers, associates, intimates, in-laws, and relatives? This alone would be enough honour and pride for them, then how would it be, if we combined it with Allah’s subhanahu wa ta ‘ala praise and commendation of them, which I have mentioned, and that which I have failed to mention.
  • When Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala was pleased with them, loved them, praised them, and commended them… then what is the value of our human praise and commendation? It is merely a manifestation of that and an intrusion on their table. Perhaps Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala will gather us with them under the banner of His beloved, selected one salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. This is what I hope for, for He is Generous and Bountiful.
