A small number of individuals or numerous?

Is it correct to claim that the community of Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum, those whom Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala testified to the sincerity of their iman and praised their guidance, accomplishments, success, and truthfulness were just a mere handful of people via whom the call and cause of Islam could not be assisted nor the Islamic civilisation be established or is it such what they were a massive power to be contended with, a tremendous fighting force via whom Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala assisted the call of truth and on their guard established the Islamic civilisation?

The answer to that is found in the verses of the Qur’an and by those who posses intellect and upon researching the realities of history!

Certainly Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala strengthened His Nabi salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam by assisting him divinely and with the believers:

وَإِنْ يُرِيْدُوْا أَنْ يَخْدَعُوْكَ فَإِنَّ حَسْبَكَ اللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ الَّذِيْ أَيَّدَكَ بِنَصْرِهِ وَبِالْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ

But if they intend to deceive you, then sufficient for you is Allah. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers.[1]

There is no doubt that these believers were the foundation via which help was realized and who were invigorated when facing the enemies of Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, otherwise their mention in the verse would be futile and of no use, and Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala is most certainly high above futility to a great degree.

Those who participated in Badr and whose iman Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala vouched for and who have already been forgiven by Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, were an army consisting of 313 as is well known to all and sundry.

Those who took the pledge of allegiance under the tree to fight the disbelievers and regarding whom Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala announced His pleasure, most certainly were a large group capable of fulfilling the dictates of such a pledge and who numbered an amount that would be sufficient to go to war. They were 1400 as mentioned by the most reliable books of hadith.

Those who followed Nabi salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam during the Jaysh al ‘Usra (Army of distress in Tabuk) and regarding whom Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala announced His forgiveness, compassion, and mercy; did they mobilize to fight the Romans and come out with Rasul salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam to fight them whilst they were few in number not exceeding the amount of fingers on both hands or do we say that it was necessary for them to be a substantial group for victory to be realized whilst facing one of the most vicious enemies who were the superpower of the time?

The number of believers on that day were approximately 30 000 as historical records show. Some people have disgraced themselves; they renounce the reality and history, and they claim that none of the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum remained on the truth except 3, or 10 at the most and they say the remaining were disbelievers and apostates.

How far are these fabricators from the clear verses of the Qur’an and the firmly established realities! Is it possible to interpret these lies in any other way besides it being the groundwork and basis of slander against the Qur’an and to create doubt in its authenticity? In effect, that is what hindered many of their fanatics to the point that some of them authored detailed works trying to prove the distortion of the Qur’an!
