Description of Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum in the Qur’an

True believers

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:

But those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah and those who gave shelter and aided – it is they who are the believers, truly. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.[1]

The genuinely successful ones

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:

The ones who have believed, emigrated, and striven in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allah. And it is those who are the attainers [of success].[2]

The truthful ones

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:

For the poor Muhajirin who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allah and [His] approval and supporting [the cause of] Allah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful.[3]

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala is pleased with the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum and they are pleased with Him

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:

And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajirin and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct, Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.[4]

Those who have been forgiven and been shown mercy

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:

Allah has already forgiven the Nabi and the Muhajirin and the Ansar who followed him in the hour of difficulty after the hearts of a party of them had almost inclined [to doubt], and then He forgave them. Indeed, He was to them Kind and Merciful.[5]

Those whom Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala had given glad tidings

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:

The ones who have believed, emigrated and striven in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives are greater in rank in the sight of Allah. And it is those who are the attainers [of success]. Their Lord gives them good tidings of mercy from Him and approval and of gardens for them wherein is enduring pleasure.[6]

Best of nations taken out as an example for mankind

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:

You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah.[7]

Those who possessed Taqwa

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:

When those who disbelieved had put into their heart’s chauvinism – the chauvinism of the time of ignorance. But Allah sent down His tranquillity upon His Messenger and upon the believers and imposed upon them the word of righteousness, and they were more deserving of it and worthy of it. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.[8]

Infuriation of the Kuffar

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:

And their description in the Injil is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers, so that He [i.e., Allah] may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.[9]

Imam Malik rahimahu Llah derived from this verse the apostasy of the Rawafid who are outraged and angry at the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum and he said that it is because the Rawafid are angry at the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum, and whosoever is angered by the mere mention of the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum then he is a disbelieve because of this verse.
