You are towards goodness

I beseech you in the name of Allah: Is there anyone among you with whom Rasulullah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam contracted brotherhood between them and himself

Certainly, you will be the first from whose head sand will be wiped on the Day of Qiyamah.

You are towards goodness

إنك إلى خير

You are towards goodness.

This is what Rasulullah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam told Sayyidah Umm Salamah radiya Llahu ‘anha when she asked Rasulullah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam if she is not part of his Ahlul Bayt.

The isnad is da’if due to the ambiguity of the narrator from ‘Ata’ ibn Abi Rabah to Umm Salamah. It appears with another sanad where all the links are listed; however, Shahr ibn Hawshab is present in that isnad.

Shahr ibn Hawshab

  • Hafiz Ibn Hajar said, “ Guilty of plenty irsal (omitting narrators) and mistakes.”[1]

Furthermore, this narration contradicts a more authentic narration:

عن أم سلمة قلت يا رسول الله ألست من أهلك قال بلى فادخلي في الكساء قالت فدخلت في الكساء بعدما قضى دعاءه لابن عمه و ابنيه و ابنته فاطمة

Umm Salamah reports: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, am I not part of your Ahlul Bayt?”

Rasulullah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam responded, “Most definitely. So enter into the blanket.”

Accordingly, I entered under the blanket after he finished supplicating for his cousin, his grandsons, and his daughter Fatimah.”

The hadith begins with Sayyidah Umm Salamah’s radiya Llahu ‘anha statement after the news of Sayyidah Hussain’s radiya Llahu ‘anhu martyrdom reached her:

لعنت أهل العراق قتلوه قتلهم الله غروه و ذلوه لعنهم الله

She cursed the people of Iraq saying, “They killed him, may Allah kill them. They deceived and humiliated him. May Allah curse them.”

This has been reported by Ahmed[2] and al Tabarani[3] with a sahih isnad.
