Theme Five: The first to Compile the Qur’an was Abu Bakr al Siddiq

The following narrations are cited ahead in order to establish this theme. These narrations appear in Tabaqat ibn Sa’d, al Isti’ab, and many other references:

‘Abd Khayr mentions that he heard ‘Ali saying, “may Allah shower his mercy upon Abu Bakr. He was the first to compile that which is between the covers (of the Book).”[1]

The translation of both narrations is that ‘Abd Khayr says that he heard ‘Ali saying, “Abu Bakr will attain the maximum reward for compiling the Qur’an. May Allah’s subhanahu wa ta ‘ala mercy descend upon Abu Bakr; he was the first to compile the Book of Allah.”[2]
