The Shi’i doctrine of Tahrif (distortion of the Qur’an) is without a doubt the most heinous of the Ithna ‘Ashari Shia beliefs. Stemming from their disparagement of the Sahabah, and the first three Khulafa’ in particular—who they accuse of disbelief and conspiring to destroy Islam—it resulted in them attacking the very integrity of the Noble Qur’an, which they were primarily responsible for compiling and preserving; accusing them instead of tampering and altering its verses. While the distortion of the Qur’an at the hands of the Sahabah indeed remained the view of many Shi’i scholars through the centuries, there would be a few classical as well as contemporary Shi’i scholars who distanced themselves from this blasphemy entirely, declaring the Qur’an to be preserved in exactly the same manner it was revealed, with no addition or subtraction. One would assume that the adoption of this commendable stance naturally led them to also acknowledge the efforts of the Sahabah in its compilation; however, a new theory emerged with it that the entire Qur’an was already documented and compiled in full during the lifetime of the Prophet, thus leaving no gaps for any merit to fall to the Sahabah.

The esteemed author ‘Abdul Malik al-Shafi’i in this treatise establishes with irrefutable proof that the claim of a prophetic compilation of the Qur’an cannot be substantiated by any credible evidence or historical accounts, neither by the Ahl al-Sunnah nor the Shia. In fact, it has been thoroughly debunked and rejected by the most senior Shi’i scholars, past and present. This leaves the Shia with one of two options: Rejecting the preservation of the Qur’an due to their dissociation from the Khulafa’, which necessitates Kufr by their own admission; or alternatively acknowledge its integrity along with the integrity of its compilers, the blessed Sahabah, at the forefront of them the three Khulafa’, Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and ‘Uthman radiya Llahu ‘anhum. This book is an invaluable gift to the seekers of the truth.
