أول من حرم المتعة عمر
The first person to declare Mut’ah haram was ‘Umar[1]
Al Suyuti made this statement. This is one of his shocking errors and startling blunders. Sahih al Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and all the books of al Sunan have documented the mutawatir narration from Rasulullah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam forbidding Mut’ah. So how could al Suyuti be ignorant of this?
When we have disregarded some of the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum who were in opposition like Sayyidina Ibn ‘Abbas and Sayyidina Jabir radiya Llahu ‘anhuma since they were unaware of Rasulullah’s salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam prohibition of Mut’ah, then opposing al Suyuti in this regard is all the more sensible.
