أقيلوني فإن لي شيطانا يعتريني
Terminate your bay’ah with me for I have a Shaitan who seizes me.
This is an address which is attributed to Sayyidina Abu Bakr radiya Llahu ‘anhu.
The Rawafid use this narration to criticise Sayyidina Abu Bakr radiya Llahu ‘anhu whereas there is no one, except that Allah has appointed a Shaitan for him.
Al Tabarani narrated it in al Mujam al Awsat[1].
‘Isa ibn Sulaiman and ‘Isa ibn ‘Attiyah appear in the isnad.
‘Isa ibn Sulaiman is da’if (weak).
‘Isa ibn ‘Attiyah is majhul (unknown). Al Haythami said, “I do not know him.”[2]
Al Tabari mentioned him in his Tarikh[3] from Saif ibn ‘Umar al Dabbi who is a Rafidi and kadhab (great liar) as agreed upon by the scholars of hadith.
‘Abdul Razzaq narrates it in al Musannaf[4] and so did Ibn ‘Asakir in his Tarikh[5]. However, there is inqita’ (a missing link) between Ma’mar and Hassan in that isnad.
