[Remember] when you said to the believers, “Is it not sufficient for you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down?” Yes, if you remain patient and conscious of Allah and they [i.e., the enemy] come upon you [attacking] in rage, your Lord will reinforce you with five thousand angels having marks [of distinction].”[1]
In another place, Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:
[Remember] when He overwhelmed you with drowsiness [giving] security from Him and sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you and remove from you the evil [suggestions] of Satan and to make steadfast your hearts and plant firmly thereby your feet.
[Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, “I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip.”[2]
Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:
And you did not kill them, but it was Allah who killed them. And you threw not, [O Muhammad], when you threw, but it was Allah who threw that He might test the believers with a good test. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.[3]
Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says:
Already there has been for you a sign in the two armies which met [in combat at Badr, one fighting in the cause of Allah and another of disbelievers. They saw them [to be] twice their [own] number by [their] eyesight. But Allah supports with His victory whom He wills. Indeed, in that is a lesson for those of vision.[4]
The verse indicates to the meeting of the armies of the Muslims and the polytheists during the Battle of Badr. In the verse, Allah testifies to the sincerity of the Sahabah’s intentions; that they did not fight on that day out of fanaticism nor to show off their valour or to flaunt their standing rather they fought in the path of Allah so that the message and word of Allah is elevated and the word of the disbelievers remains disgraced. So, Allah assisted them a divine assistance and Allah aids with His support whomsoever He wishes.
