All praise to Allah. We praise Him, seek His assistance and beg His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil within us and from our evil deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides none can misguide; whom He leads astray none can lead aright. I testify that none is worthy of worship except Allah alone and that Muhammad salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam is His servant and messenger.
It is an undeniable fact that the nations of the world have converged upon the Muslim Ummah “like people inviting one another to partake of a meal”. This is the fulfillment of the prophecy of the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam regarding the fate that would befall the Muslims in the future.
We, the children of the Ahlus Sunnah in Iran, are perhaps more acutely aware of this painful reality than others, now that the Shia have mustered all their efforts towards combatting the Ahlus Sunnah in Iran – a land which was once upon a time an impregnable fortress amongst the strongholds of Islam, until its people became tainted with the beliefs of the Shia.
The Ahlus Sunnah in Iran have been cut off from their Muslim brothers in other parts of the Muslim world and confined within the borders of those regions which Safavid tyranny set up around them during the black centuries, when they met out a variety of oppressive measures and persecution of the Ahlus Sunnah and deprived them of the most basic human rights. The ones who suffered the most were those who lived in the larger cities like Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan and Tabriz.
Some amongst the younger generation of Sunnis have been influenced by the Shi’ite propaganda, and the state which the Ahlus Sunnah found themselves in proved to be very much conducive to their proselytisation. There was no solidarity in their ranks and superstition and innovation prevailed – factors which took their ruin so much further. The loss of religious sentiment and unity of belief, as well as lack of proper leadership that espouses correct ‘aqidah and Jihad, all contributed to the general weakness of the Ahlus Sunnah.
Together with these internal factors went the way in which the Sunnis of the rest of the Muslim world deserted their brothers, the Sunnis of Iran. We, the Ahlus Sunnah of Iran, have not heard of a single Sunni country or organisation, even before Khomeini’s reign, that has demanded our rights or enquired about us. In fact, we anxiously cherished the hope that our people would take up our cause just like Iran has taken up the cause of the Shia in the Gulf states and elsewhere, assuming the role of their protector who demands their rights and defends them.
But the Ahlus Sunnah in Iran heard no one speaking on their behalf. Even the Arab ambassadors failed to get a Masjid erected in Tehran in the time of both the old and new Shah. At the same time, the Shia in the Gulf countries had numerous Masjids and Hussainiyyahs (mourning centers) of their own, wherein they hatched their conspiracies against the Ahlus Sunnah and swore and cursed at the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum, without anyone doing anything about it.
We plead with our brothers, the people of Din and Iman, to give us some of their attention. Our people, you have brothers who are perishing in humiliation, who have to taste the bitterness of degradation day after day. We are facing imminent danger, a danger even greater than that of hunger and thirst. We are facing the danger of Shi’ism. The children of the Ahlus Sunnah are facing this great danger. They face the danger of becoming Shia. The ruling clique have spared no effort to turn the children of the Ahlus Sunnah into Shia. The Sunnis of Iran beseech you, in the name of Allah, not to abandon them. We beseech you in the name of old men and young children to look into our affairs. The people of deviation have ganged up against us. They intend to wipe out the Ahlus Sunnah and drive them away. Will you save us and establish the Sunnah?
It is now we who are the oppressed and it is our oppressors who are the haughty ones. It is they who are the neo-colonialists, the bearers of hatred, who have no respect for the aged or the learned. It is they who violate the sanctity of the Masjid when they massacre its people. This is a call by an oppressed Sunni to his brothers in faith. What are you, our people, going to do?
In this hastily written book, we present to you a brief summary of the conditions of the Ahlus Sunnah in Iran, the trials and tribulations under which they must live, and the schemes of the Shia government to combat the true faith and its people. We throw light upon the bases of difference between the Ahlus Sunnah and the Shia, drawing upon the books of the Shia and also from their actual life in Iran.
At the end, we will include an address to all who seek truth for the sake of truth, a message for any that has a heart and understanding, or gives ear and earnestly witnesses (the truth).
