They think that Sayyidina Muawiyah radiya Llahu ‘anhu would surreptitiously poison his opposition and then comment:
إن لله جنودا من عسل
Indeed, Allah has armies of honey.
It appears in Musannaf ‘Abdul Razzaq, al Tarikh al Kabir, and Tahdhib al Kamal that Sayyidina ‘Amr ibn al ‘As radiya Llahu ‘anhu made this statement when he heard that al Ashtar was poisoned and died. However, it does not appear in these references that Sayyidina Muawiyah radiya Llahu ‘anhu was the one who surreptitiously poisoned him as al Tijani claims.
In Siyar A’lam al Nubala’ it appears that when Sayyidina ‘Amr heard of al Ashtar’s death, he was pleased and remarked, “Indeed, Allah has armies of honey.”[1]
It appears in Tahdhib al Kamal that the one to poison him was a slave of Sayyidina ‘Uthman radiya Llahu ‘anhu.[2]
On the other hand, Tarikh al Tabari makes mention that the general Muslims made the remark when they heard of al Ashtar’s death. The person who made the statement was not identified.[3]
