Conclusion of Chapter 2

In concluding this chapter, wherein I have mentioned the status of the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum in the Prophetic Sunnah, I would like to list their virtues and status concisely, as mentioned in the Prophetic Sunnah.

From the Prophetic ahadith that I have mentioned, I will conclude by describing the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum with the praise bestowed upon them by the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, describing them with noble qualities, commending them for their beautiful deeds, honouring them with gifts, and what they were distinguished with, such as noble characteristics, great favours, the most honourable and sublime of descriptions, the most exalted and virtuous of names, and the loftiest and most sublime of attributes.

  • They are the best of generations of humankind from the beginning of creation to its end. They are the security of this Ummah. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala selected them to be the companions of His Messenger. They are like salt to food; food cannot taste good without it. The Ummah will remain upon goodness as long as any of them remain. They are Allah’s subhanahu wa ta ‘ala witnesses on His earth. Victory is granted to any army if one of them is among them. The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam testified to their virtue, enjoined kindness towards them, commanded us to honour them, supplicate for them, and seek forgiveness for them. The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam forbade reviling them.
  • Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala singled them out with the observation and companionship of the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, thus, glad tidings to them. Therefore, no one will ever reach their rank or their reward. They were in the company of the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, so the fire of Jahannam will never touch them on the Day of Qiyamah.
  • Those among them who participated in the Battle of Badr or the Treaty of al Hudaybiyyah are the best of people. None of them will ever enter Jahannam, and Jannat is guaranteed for them, because the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam guaranteed it for them.
  • Among the Companions radiya Llahu ‘anhum were the leaders of the people of Jannat. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala made their hearts the best of all hearts. If a Sahabi passed away in a land, he would be raised up as a leader and a light for that land. He made the excused among them share in the reward of the others. They were included with the Mujahidin in reward.
  • Among them are those due to whom verses were revealed and recited. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala encompassed them with His care. He honoured them in times of distress and rescued them in moments of hardship.
  • Many of them were given glad tidings of Jannat. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala singled out the first among them with special care and honour, thus, they were a mercy upon the Ummah.
  • The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam was the leader of the Muhajirin. He entrusted the reward of the Muhajirin to Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala. He informed that the matter of Hijrah was severe, that it was assigned for its people, and that the Muhajir was the best of Muslims, because Hijrah wipes away what came before it. They will be the first to enter Jannat, the first to reach the Pond of Kawthar, and the first to cross the Bridge (al Sirat). They will have a light like the sun on the Day of Qiyamah, because Hijrah is a means of the forgiveness of sins and entry into Jannat.
  • The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam supplicated for the acceptance of their Hijrah and enjoined to treat them and their children well after them. He gave a Muhajir precedence over others, and he gave preference to those who emigrated first; hence, they were eager to emigrate. Therefore, it was forbidden for the Muhajir to return to his homeland to settle there. The emigrants to Abyssinia were singled out for extra reward, just as the women among the Muhajirin were distinguished. Among the Muhajirin are the ten promised Jannat and the Rightly Guided Khalifas.
  • The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam established brotherhood between the Muhajirin and the Ansar radiya Llahu ‘anhum. He would supplicate for them abundantly and requested that they all be close to him, for they are allies of one another.
  • It is Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala who gave the Ansar this name, and declared that loving them is a sign of iman and hating them is a sign of hypocrisy. No believer hates them. Whoever loves them, Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala loves him. They are the allies of the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. They have no ally but Allah and His Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. They are among the most beloved people to the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and were it not for the Hijrah, the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam wished to have been one of them. If people were to take a different path, the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam would take their (the Ansar’s) path. They are the keepers of his secrets and his trust, his close ones and confidants. His life was with them, and his demise was with them. They would decrease in number while other people would increase. They have fulfilled their obligations, and what remains is what is due to them. Muslims should accept from their beneficent and forgive their wrongdoers. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala has praised them. They do not make Hijrah, for Hijrah is to them, and their city is the destination of the Hijrah.
  • The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam enjoined to treat them well and supplicated frequently for them and their children. They are people of self-sacrifice and equality, people of justice and abundant reward, and people of goodness. The Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam testified to their trustworthiness, chastity, and patience. Whoever frightens them frightens the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and upon him is the curse of Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, the angels, and all of humanity. His deeds will not be accepted. Their women folk were also singled out for special care and praise.
  • They were singled out to take care of the Qur’an. They were truthful to the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam in their pledge of allegiance, and thus, martyrs from amongst them were many in Islam. They were eager for the Hereafter, so, the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam gave them glad tidings and hope. They were successful by being uniquely associated with the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.
  • Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala singled them out by placing among them those for whom mountains trembled beneath their feet alongside the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Among them were those who outweighed the entire Ummah. Among them were those in whose hands the pebbles glorified Allah. Among them is the first to be resurrected after the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Among them were those with whom Jibril and Mika’il ‘alayh al Salam were present during battle. And among them were those whose testimony is equivalent to the testimony of two, so whoever he testifies for, it suffices them.
  • Among them were those whom Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala disliked to see err. Among them were those upon whose tongues and hearts Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala placed the truth. Among them were those from whom Shaitan flees. Among them were those from whom the angels are shy. Among them were those for whom the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam testified that Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala and His Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam loved them, and that they love Allah and His Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Among them were those for whom the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam would sacrifice his father and mother. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala made the trustworthy individual of this nation from them. Among them were those whom the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam called the Sword of Allah. And among them were those for whom the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam testified even though they were not present.
  • Among them were those who were given a flute (melodious voice) from the flutes of the family of Dawood ‘alayh al Salam. Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala placed among them those whose supplications were answered. Among them were those whom we were commanded to abide to their ways and guidance. Among them were those who were worthy of prophethood, were it not for its termination by the prophethood of Muhammad salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.
  • Among them were those whose anger angered Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, and those whose status (by the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was like that of Harun to Musa ‘alayh al Salam. Among them were those who, if they were to swear by Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala, He would fulfil their oath.
  • Among them were those who will enter Jannat through all its eight doors. Among them were the inspired ones, those upon whose opinion the Qur’an was revealed. Among them were those whom Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala and Jibril ‘alayh al Salam greeted, and those on whose death the Throne of Allah shook. Among them were those whom the angels shaded with their wings, and those upon whom the angels and tranquillity descended when they recited the Qur’an. Among them were those whom Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala commanded His Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam to recite the Qur’an to, and He named them for him. Among them were those whom Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala aided through Jibril ‘alayh al Salam.
  • Among them are those who fly in Jannat with their wings, and those that the sounds of their sandals were heard in Jannat while they were alive. Among them are those whom Jibril ‘alayh al Salam visited during their illness, and those who are the best of all creation.

May Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala be pleased with them and please them, and may He resurrect us with them under the banner of the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Amin.
