Are you not pleased to be the fourth of four

أما ترضى أن تكون رابع أربعة أول من يدخل الجنة أنا و أنت و الحسين و أزواجنا عن أيماننا و عن شمائلنا و ذرارينا خلف أزواجنا و شيعتنا من ورائنا

Are you not happy to be the fourth of four? The first to enter Jannat will be me, you, and Hussain. Our wives will be on our right and left sides, our progeny will be behind our wives, and our partisans will be behind us.[1]

The isnad of this hadith is as follows:

حدثنا محمد بن يونس ثنا عبيد الله بن عائشة قال أنا إسماعيل بن عمرو عن عمر بن موسى عن زيد بن علي بن حسين عن أبيه عن جده عن علي بن أبي طالب

Muhammad ibn Yunus narrated to us ― ‘Ubaidullah ibn ‘Aisha narrated to us saying ― Ismail ibn ‘Amr informed us from ― ‘Umar ibn Musa from ― Zaid ibn Ali ibn Hussain from ― his father from ― his grandfather from ― ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib.

This hadith is mawdu’ (fabricated).

Muhammad ibn Yunus al Kudaymi

  • Muhammad ibn Yunus al Kudaymi appears in the isnad and he is a kadhab (great liar).
  • Al Daraqutni says, “Qasim al Mutarraz was asked about him and said, ‘I will kneel him before Allah―the Blessed and Exalted―on the Day of Qiyamah and say, ‘Indeed, he would lie against Your Messenger and the ‘ulama’.’”[2]
  • They have criticised him of fabricating and appropriating chains of narration for his forged narrations.
  • Ibn ‘Adi criticised him of fabricating.[3]

Ismail ibn ‘Amr al Bajali

  • He is da’if. Majority have labelled him da’if while some have considered him reliable.[4]

‘Umar ibn Musa ibn Wajih al Taymi al Wajihi al Himsi

  • He is matruk (suspected of hadith forgery).
  • Al Bukhari says, “Munkar al hadith (Contradicts reliable narrators).”
  • Ibn Ma’in comments, “He is not reliable.” In another narration, “A kadhab (great liar). He is worthless.”
  • Abu Hatim al Razi has indicted him for fabricating and lying.
  • Al Nasa’i and al Daraqutni have abandoned him.[5]

It has a shahid (corroboration) from another chain. However, the problem lies with Harb ibn al Hassan al Tahhan and Yahya ibn Ya’la.

  • Al Haythami has declared both of them da’if in Majma’ al Zawaid[6].
  • Hafiz says, “Its isnad is wahin (weak).”[7]
