The praise of Zaid ibn Thabit radiya Llahu ‘anhu
The respect Zaid ibn Thabit had for Ibn ‘Abbas radiya Llahu ‘anhuma led him to refuse Ibn ‘Abbas’s radiya Llahu ‘anhuma attempt to hold the stirrups for him.
عن ابن عباس، أنه أخذ بركاب زيد بن ثابت، فقال له: تنح يا ابن عم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال: إنا هكذا نفعل بكبرائنا وعلمائنا
It is narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas radiya Llahu ‘anhuma that once he held Zaid ibn Thabit’s radiya Llahu ‘anhu stirrups. Zaid ibn Thabit radiya Llahu ‘anhu said, “You may leave the stirrups, O the cousin of the Rasul of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.” He then said, “This is how we respect our elders and scholars.”[1]

It is narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas radiya Llahu ‘anhuma that once he held Zaid ibn Thabit’s radiya Llahu ‘anhu stirrups. Zaid ibn Thabit radiya Llahu ‘anhu said, “You may leave the stirrups, O the cousin of the Rasul of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.” He then said, “This is how we respect our elders and scholars.”[1]
