The praise of Amir al Mu’minin ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan radiya Llahu ‘anhu

This rightly guided Khalifah in the same way as the rest of the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum attested to the virtue of the Ahlul Bayt of the Rasul of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. They used to praise them in a manner that was appropriate for them.

It is recorded in al Bidayah wa al Nihayah by Ibn Kathir:

كان العباس إذا مر راكبا بعمر أو بعثمان، وهما راكبان، نزلا حتى يجاوزهما إجلالا لعم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم

Whenever ‘Abbas radiya Llahu ‘anhu used to pass by ‘Umar or ‘Uthman radiya Llahu ‘anhuma in the condition that they were on a conveyance, then ‘Umar and ‘Uthman radiya Llahu ‘anhuma would dismount from their conveyance until he passed by out of honour for the uncle of the Rasul of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.^{^[1]}

Ibn Kathir rahimahu Llah also reports:

كان عثمان بن عفان رضي الله عنه يكرم الحسن والحسين رضي الله عنهما ويحبهما. وقد كان الحسن بن علي يوم الدار – وعثمان رضي الله عنه محصور – عنده ومعه السيف متقلدا به يحاجف عن عثمان فخشي عثمان عليه فأقسم عليه ليرجعن إلى منزلهم تطييبا لقلب علي، وخوفا عليه رضي الله عنهم

‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan radiya Llahu ‘anhu used to honour and love Hassan and Hussain radiya Llahu ‘anhuma. On the day which ‘Uthman radiya Llahu ‘anhu was killed, whilst he was still under siege, Hassan ibn ‘Ali radiya Llahu ‘anhu was with him, sword in hand, protecting ‘Uthman radiya Llahu ‘anhu. ‘Uthman radiya Llahu ‘anhu was concerned about the safety of Hassan radiya Llahu ‘anhu so he took an oath on the name of Allah for Hassan to return to his house. ‘Uthman radiya Llahu ‘anhu had done this to make ‘Ali radiya Llahu ‘anhu happy and out of fear lest any harm come to Hassan radiya Llahu ‘anhu.^{^[2]}
