Introduction

It should be clear to the readers that the actual contention between the two sects is the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum. The Ahlus Sunnah regards them as righteous while the Shia deem them as iniquitous. In fact, just as the Ahlus Sunnah regard them to enjoy the loftiest rank among the ummah and to possess the most perfect and highest level of iman, the Shia deem them as the worst and most wicked to the extent of labelling them as renegades and disbelievers. Thus, in reality the truthfulness or falsehood of these two sects rests on this discussion. In other words, if in conformity with the belief of the Ahlus Sunnah it is proven that the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum possessed the most perfect iman and remained firm on this till the end, then undoubtedly the Ahlus Sunnah are on truth and the Shia are on falsehood. And if in contrast it is established that they have renegaded and become apostate (May Allah forbid) then the Shia are right and the Ahlus Sunnah are wrong. Accordingly, I will firstly present the virtues of the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum followed by establishing the al khilafah al Rashidah. I will then respond to all the allegations which the Shia level against the Sahabah radiya Llahu ‘anhum.
