Hadith 41

نزلت في علي ثلاث مائة آية.

Three-hundred verses (of the Qur’an) were revealed regarding ‘Ali.

Al Khatib narrates (and Ibn ‘Asakir in a similar manner) — Abu Ya’la Ahmed ibn ‘Abdul Wahid al Wakil informed us — Kuhi ibn al Hassan al Farisi narrated to us — Ahmed ibn al Qasim, the brother of Abu al Layth al Faraʾidi narrated to us — Muhammad ibn Habash al Mamuni narrated to us — Salam ibn Sulaiman al Thaqafi narrated to us — Ismail ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul Rahman al Madaʾini narrated to us — from Juwaybir — from al Dahhak — from Ibn ‘Abbas…[1]

Salam ibn Sulaiman al Thaqafi is da’if (weak).

Juwaybir is matruk (suspected of forgery).

Ismail ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul Rahman al Madaʾini could not be traced.

Al Dahhak did not meet Ibn ‘Abbas.

Ibn ‘Iraq merely ruled the hadith to be da’if (weak) instead of mawdu’ (fabricated).[2]

Al Albani says the hadith is da’if jiddan (extremely weak).[3]
