يدخل من أمتي الجنة سبعون ألفا لا حساب عليهم، ثم التفت إلى علي عليه السلام فقال: هم من شيعتك، وأنت إمامهم.
“Seventy thousand people from my Ummah will enter Jannat (Paradise) without any reckoning.” Then he turned to ‘Ali and said: “They will be from your shia (group) and you will be their leader.”
Ibn al Maghazili narrates — Al Qadi Abu Jafar Muhammad ibn Ismail al ‘Alawi informed us — Abu Muhammad ‘Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Uthman al Muzani al Hafiz (ibn al Saqqaʾ) narrated to us — Abu ‘Abdullah Ahmed ibn ‘Ali al Razi narrated to us — ‘Ali ibn al Hussain ibn ‘Ubaid al Razi narrated to us — Ismail ibn Aban al Azdi narrated to us — from ‘Amr ibn Hurayth — from Dawood ibn Sulayk — from Anas ibn Malik who said: ‘The Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said…’”[1]
This hadith is batil (false) and munkar (unacceptable).
Ibn Hibban is the only person to regard Dawood ibn Sulayk as a thiqah (reliable).
Al Dhahabi mentions a biography of Abu Jafar Muhammad ibn Ismail al ‘Alawi; however, he mentions nothing (positive or negative) about his status as a narrator.[2]
I do not know who ‘Ali ibn al Hussain ibn ‘Ubaid al Razi is.
It is possible that the person narrating from him is ibn al Khasib. He is not a thiqah (reliable).[3]
As mentioned previously, Ibn al Maghazili is da’if (weak).
The following hadith narrated by Imam al Bukhari and Imam Muslim contradict this hadith and is therefore proof that it is unacceptable and false. Imam al Bukhari and Imam Muslim narrate:
…Seventy thousand from these people shall enter Jannat (Paradise) without reckoning. So the people started speaking about the issue and said, ‘It is we who have believed in Allah and followed His Messenger; therefore, those people (i.e. he was referring to) are either ourselves or our children who were born in the era of Islam (i.e. as Muslims), since we were born in Jahiliyyah (the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance) (i.e. we were not born Muslim).’ When the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam heard this, he came out and said. ‘They do not seek ruqyah (incantations), nor do they believe in good or bad omens (caused by birds), nor do they cauterize themselves; rather, they place their trust (only) in their Lord.’[4]
This hadith is also narrated by Ibn ‘Abbas and Abu Hurairah.[5]
