Hadith 16

قيل لعلي ولأبي بكر يوم بدر مع أحدكما جبريل ومع الآخر ميكائيل وإسرافيل ملك عظيم يشهد القتال أو قال: يشهد الصف.

It was said to ‘Ali and Abu Bakr on the Day of Badr, “Jibril is (present) with one of you two and Mikaʾil with the other. Israfil is a great angel who witnesses the battle.” Or he said, “Witnesses the front line.”

Imam Ahmed, Ibn Abi ‘Asim, and others narrate from Mis’ar — from Abu ‘Awn — from Abu Salih al Hanafi — from ‘Ali.[1]

The chain of transmission is authentic. However, the narration is not explicitly marfu’[2].

Al Bazzar and al Hakim narrate from Mis’ar — from Abu ‘Awn — from Abu Salih al Hanafi — from ‘Ali radiya Llahu ‘anhu who said that the Messenger of Allah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said to Abu Bakr on the Day of Badr, ““Jibril is (present) with one of you two and Mikaʾil with the other. Israfil is a great angel who witnesses the battle or is present in the front line.”[3]

Al Hakim authenticated this hadith and al Dhahabi concurred. Al Albani also authenticated it.[4]
