Do you not know (O Fatimah) that Allah―the Mighty and Majestic―looked towards the people of the earth

Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah al Hadrami narrated to us ― Muhammad ibn Marzuq narrated to us ― Hussain al Ashqar narrated to us ― Qais ibn al A’mash narrated to us from ― ‘Abayah ibn Rab’i from ― Abu Ayub al Ansari that Rasulullah salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said to Fatimah radiya Llahu ‘anha:

Do you not know that Allah―the Mighty and Majestic― looked towards the people of the earth and selected from them your father appointing his as a Messenger. He then looked a second time and selected your husband. Consequently, He sent revelation to me, thus I married (you) to him and took him as a wasi (successor).

Al Tabarani[1] narrates it.

Hussain al Ashqar

  • Al Dhahabi remarks, “Hussain al Ashqar is munkar al hadith (contradicts reliable narrators). It is not permissible to use him as proof.”[2]
  • Al Bukhari comments, “There is scepticism about him.”[3]
  • Al Bukhari also states, “He has manakir.”[4]
  • Abu Zur’ah says, “Munkar al hadith.”
  • Al Juzajani remarks, “ Insults the chosen.”[5]
  • Al Nasa’i comments, “He is not qawi (reliable).”[6]
  • Al Daraqutni made similar comments.[7]

Al Haythami narrated it in Majma’ al Zawaid and remarked, “Al Tabarani narrated it in al Awsat and al Kabir. Haytham ibn Habib appears in the isnad and he has been criticised on account of this hadith.”

  • Abu Hatim says, “He is munkar al hadith.”[8]

Al Tabarani narrated it in al Mujam al Awsat[9] and al Mujam al Kabir[10]. He clarifies in al Awsat, “Haytham ibn Habib is the sole narrator.”

He is not Haytham ibn Habib al Sayrafi the reliable narrator as al Albani has pointed out.[11]

He narrates it in al Kabir from the chain of Hussain al Ashqar, who I have dealt with already.
