بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Sayyidina Abu Sa’id al Khudri radiya Llahu anhu narrates that Sayyidina Rasulullah salla Llahu alayhi wa sallam warned:
Do not revile my Sahabah, because I take an oath in the name of that Being who controls my life, if any of you have to spend even gold equal to Mount Uhud, it will never equal one mudd[1] spent by the Sahabah, and not even half a mudd![2]
Since the first portion of this hadith is quite famous and is often read in the second khutbah on the day of Jumu’ah, we will quote the Arabic text as well. Sayyidina ‘Abdullah ibn Mughaffal radiya Llahu anhu narrates that Sayyidina Rasulullah salla Llahu alayhi wa sallam sounded a stern warning, saying:
اَللّهَ الَلّهَ فِيْ أَصْحَابِيْ لاَ تَتَّخِذُوْهُمْ غَرَضًا مِّنْ بَعْدِيْ فَمَنْ أَحَبَّهُمْ فَبِحُبِّيْ أَحَبَّهُمْ وَمَنْ أَبْغَضَهُمْ فَبِبُغْضِيْ أَبْغَضَهُمْ
Fear Allah, fear Allah with regards to my Sahabah! Do not make them the target of your criticism and abuse after I depart from this world. He who loves them, loves them because he loves me, and he who hates them, hates them because he hates me. He who harms them has indeed harmed me, and he who harms me it is as if he has attempted to harm Allah Ta’ala, and he who attempts to harm Allah Ta’ala will soon be taken to task by Him.[3]
Sayyidina ‘Abd al Rahman ibn ‘Uwaym ibn Sa’idah radiya Llahu anhu narrates that Sayyidina Rasulullah salla Llahu alayhi wa sallam said:
Allah Ta’ala chose me and He chose for me my Sahabah, whom He has made my assistants, my helpers and my relatives through marriage. The curse of Allah Ta’ala, the angels and all people is upon he who swears or reviles them. On the Day of Qiyamah, neither shall his fard (obligatory) acts nor his nafl (optional) acts of devotion be accepted.[4]
Sayyidina Jabir ibn ‘Abdullah radiya Llahu anhuma narrates that Sayyidina Rasulullah salla Llahu alayhi wa sallam said:
As time passes, my Sahabah will decrease in number and others will increase. So do not ever revile or speak ill of them. The curse of Allah Ta’ala is upon he who reviles them.[5]
Sayyidina ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar radiya Llahu anhuma narrates that Sayyidina Rasulullah salla Llahu alayhi wa sallam said:
May the curse of Allah Ta’ala be upon the one who reviles my Sahabah.[6]
The beloved wife of Rasulullah salla Llahu alayhi wa sallam, Sayyidah Aisha radiya Llahu anha narrates that Sayyidina Rasulullah salla Llahu alayhi wa sallam warned:
Do not revile or swear my Sahabah. May the curse of Allah Ta’ala be upon the one who reviles or swears my Sahabah.[7]
