Abu Rayyah Rejects the Hadith, “Allah Recited Yasin and Taha Two Thousand Years Before He Created Adam”

On page 258, under the title, “Allah recites Taha and Yasin,” Abu Rayyah says:

Al Darami reports from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “Allah the Most Blessed and Exalted recited Taha and Yasin two thousand years before he created Adam.”

Our comment: The great Shia exegete (who was given the title, ‘the erudite and well-read muhaddith’) al Huwayzi quotes this hadith, which you have rejected, from Abu Hurairah radiya Llahu ‘anhu under the virtues of Surah Taha:

It is reported from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “Allah, the Most Blessed and Exalted, recited Taha and Yasin two thousand years before he created Adam. When the angels heard the Qur’an, they said, ‘Glad tidings to the nation upon whom this will be revealed. Glad tidings to the bodies which will carry this and glad tidings to the tongues which will recite this.’”[1]

Abu Rayyah is surprised by the narrations of Abu Hurairah radiya Llahu ‘anhu, but he is not moved in any way by the narrations of the Ahlul Bayt! Read along with me, O reader, and see the narrations which are ‘authentically established from the Ahlul Bayt’, who narrate from their grandfathers. Al Majlisi reports from Sahl ibn Sa’d al Ansari that he asked the Messenger salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam regarding the statement of Allah, And you were not at the side of the mount when We called (Musa ‘alayh al Salam).[2] He replied:

Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala wrote a letter on myrtle paper two thousand years before He created the creation, and then He placed the letter upon the ‘Arsh. He called out, “O Ummah of Muhammad, verily, My mercy has overpowered My anger.”[3]

‘Ali ibn Sulaiman reports from the one who related to him from Imam Jafar rahimahu Llah regarding the statement of Allah.[4]:

A book which Allah subhanahu wa ta ‘ala wrote on myrtle paper and placed it upon the ‘Arsh two thousand years before he created the creation.[5]

Dawood ibn Kathir reports that he visited Imam Jafar rahimahu Llah in Madinah. He goes on to say:

… he removed a white parchment, opened it, gave it to me and told me to read it. Thus, I read it. It contained two lines. The first line read, “There is no deity besides Allah and Muhammad is the Rasul of Allah.” The second line read, “Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve (lunar) months in the register of Allah (from) the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion (i.e., way)[6], Amir al Mu’minin Ibn Abi Talib, Hassan ibn ‘Ali…”

He then said, “O Dawood, do you know when this was written on this parchment?”

I replied, “Allah, His Rasul, and you people know best.”

He replied, “Two thousand years before he created Adam.”[7]

Dawood ibn Kathir al Raqqi reports that he said to Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad rahimahu Llah, “May I be sacrificed for you, tell me about the statement of Allah:

And the forerunners, the forerunners — those are the ones brought near (to Allah).[8]

He replied:

Allah said this on the Day that he created the creation and took the covenant from them and two thousand years before he created Adam…[9]

Hassan ibn Muqatil reports from the one who heard Zurarah saying, “Imam Jafar was asked regarding the beginning of progenies from Adam…” He goes on to report:

Allah instructed the pen, so it wrote all that which is to occur up until the Day of Qiyamah upon the preserved tablet. This happened two thousand years before the creation of Adam. All the Books of Allah were among that which as written by this pen, i.e. the four famous books of this world; the Torah, the Injil, the Zabur, and the Qur’an.[10]

Bukayr reports that Imam al Baqir would say:

Allah took the covenant of supporting us from our Shia when they were seeds, the same day that he took the covenant from all the seeds (of humans) regarding accepting Him as the Rabb and Muhammad as a Prophet… and he created the bodies of our Shia two thousand years before he created their souls.[11]

Jabir narrates from the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam:

It is written in the door of Jannat two thousand years before Allah created the heavens and the earth, “There is no deity besides Allah, Muhammad is the Rasul of Allah, and ‘Ali is the brother of the Messenger.”[12]

Yahya ibn Muhammad al Farsi reports from his father — Imam Jafar — his father — from Amir al Mu’minin:

I went out one day to the centre of Kufah… did you not read that which is written on the leg of the ‘Arsh. I read it two thousand years before Allah created the creation, “There is no deity besides Allah and Muhammad is the Rasul of Allah. I strengthened him and helped him by means of ‘Ali.”[13]

What is the opinion of this erudite scholar regarding these narrations?

On page 259, under the title, “among his strange narrations”, Abu Rayyah quotes a few narrations of Abu Hurairah radiya Llahu ‘anhu after which he claims that “he narrates strange narrations”. We will quote some of them, followed by the “strange” narrations of the Imams.
