Abu Rayyah Rejects the Hadith, “Allah Loves the Sneeze and Dislikes Yawning”
He says under the title, “Allah loves the sneeze and dislikes yawning:”
روى البخارى عن ابى هريرة عن النبى قال: ان الله يحب العطاس و يكره التثائب
Al Bukhari reports from Abu Hurairah who narrates from the Prophet salla Llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam: “Allah loves the sneeze and dislikes yawning.”
Our comment: This hadith is reported by your Imams, and is that which is ‘authentically’ narrated from their grandfather. Fudayl ibn Yasar reports from one of them that he said regarding the one who yawns:
هو من الشيطان ولم يملكه
It is from the devil and he did not withhold it.[1]
Al Tabarsi reports in Makarim al Akhlaq from Imam Jafar rahimahu Llah and al Kafi reports from al Rida rahimahu Llah:
التثائب من الشيطان و العطاس من الله عز و جل
Yawning is from the devil and sneezing is from Allah, the Exalted and Glorified.[2]
