I have been bestowed with five qualities in ‘Ali which no Nabi has been given, he fulfils my debt, covers my private parts

 

أعطيت في علي خمس خصال لم يعطها نبي يقضي ديني و يواري عورتي و هو الذائد عن حوضي و لوائي معه يوم القيامة و أما الخامسة فإني لا أخشى أن يكون زانيا بعد حصان و لا كافرا بعد إيمان

I have been bestowed with five qualities in ‘Ali which no Nabi has been given. He fulfils my debt, covers my private parts, he will chase away (people) from my pond, and my flag will be with him on the Day of Qiyamah. With regards to the fifth, I do not fear that he will be an adulterer after chastity nor a disbeliever after faith.

 

Hafiz said:

رواه العقيلي و إسناده لين

Al ‘Uqayli narrated it and his isnad is layyin (weak).[1]

 

I declare: In fact it is mawdu’ (fabricated).

 

Hussain ibn ‘Abdullah Abu ‘Ali al ‘Ijli appears in the isnad.

  • He is matruk (suspected of hadith forgery), nay a fabricator.
  • Al Daraqutni declares, “He would fabricate ahadith attributing them to reliable narrators.”
  • Ibn ‘Adi stated, “He resembles those who fabricate hadith.” “He is very likely to be among those who fabricate hadith.”
  • Al Khatib said, “He was unreliable.”[2]

Abu Nu’aym related it in al Hilyah[3] from the chain of ‘Attiyah al ‘Aufi from Abu Sa’id, giving the impression that it refers to al Khudri. This is the deception of ‘Attiyah who would relate from Abu Sa’id al Kalbi al Kufi the kadhab (great liar). Many have thought that he enjoyed the company of Sayyidina Abu Sa’id al Khudri radiya Llahu ‘anhu. However, this is not the case. The ahadith of ‘Attiyah are not sound so beware of them. He is da’if and has shia ideologies as many of the scholars have clearly mentioned, like al Nawawi etc.
